Kanda University of International Studies Graduate School (MA TESOL Program)
Lecturer, English Language Institute, Kanda University of International Studies
Ewen MacDonald
Previously as a teacher I sometimes felt self-doubt about the decisions that I made. However, undertaking the MA TESOL program at Kanda strengthened my confidence and belief in making informed and effective decisions for my students' learning. Broadening my knowledge of theories behind second language teaching and learning allowed me to be able to confidently and clearly express my beliefs and justify my actions as a teacher. Furthermore, the strong focus on the practice of classroom teaching across the curriculum allowed many opportunities to apply the theoretical knowledge that I learned and try out new ideas in my own classroom. The program's emphasis on interaction through discussion and sharing among students was greatly beneficial as a means to inform and guide my teaching practice, and the interactive and positive atmosphere fostered by professors and staff helped me feel like a member of a supportive community of teachers. Through the MA TESOL program I became a more reflective and confident teacher with a passion to continue growing and further my professional development in the field of TESOL.
