The Whole Person, The Whole Point
As national borders become increasingly blurred, it is vital for the next generation to develop a global outlook and a deep understanding of diverse perspectives and cultures — not to mention the language skills needed to be “world-ready.” This is precisely why many families in Japan are choosing an international education for their children.
At Rugby School Japan, for example, pupils from more than 20 nations live and study side by side, developing lifelong friendships and a global network. The importance of this cannot be underestimated in a world driven by international cooperation and cross-cultural understanding.
For pupils who grow up in an international school environment, global thinking becomes second nature — giving them a natural advantage over peers raised in more insular communities.
Our motto — “The Whole Person, The Whole Point” — is the bedrock of everything we do at Rugby School Japan. For our community, it is far more than a catchy slogan; it is a guiding philosophy that stays with our pupils throughout school, higher education and beyond.
So, what does it mean?
“The Whole Person, The Whole Point” reflects our belief that thriving academically is just one part of a truly excellent education. At Rugby School Japan, pupils are encouraged not only to achieve outstanding exam results, but also to grow physically, creatively and emotionally.
We nurture every facet of a young person’s character, ensuring they leave us as confident, resilient, well-rounded individuals — ready to succeed in university, in their careers and in their personal lives.
That is what “The Whole Person, The Whole Point” is all about.
Rugby School Japan is the only authentic British boarding school in the greater Tokyo area, offering flexible options for day pupils, weekly boarders and full boarders from Tokyo, across Japan and overseas.
We are an academically selective school with high aspirations for our pupils, supported by a rigorous IGCSE and A Level curriculum. While these qualifications may be less common in Japan than the IB, they are globally recognized as gold-standard certifications, trusted by leading universities and employers worldwide.
But what truly sets us apart is our commitment to the “whole person” approach to education. Our pupils don’t just thrive academically — they develop the character, creativity and confidence to lead on the global stage.
